The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Computing and Electrical Engineering (FSRE), University of Mostar, is organizing the CYRES Conference, aimed at bringing together and connecting the professional and research communities in the field of cybersecurity, while strengthening capacities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Western Balkans region.
The CYRES Conference serves as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices between academia and industry, with a particular focus on current challenges in digital forensics and cybersecurity.
We are pleased to support this initiative and, as part of the CYRES Conference, will deliver three workshops over two days, covering key areas of digital forensics, digital evidence analysis, and cyber incident management.
September 21 – Day One
Workshop 1 (10:00 – 12:00): Digital forensics in operational investigations
Approaches, methodology and an overview of the digital evidence processing workflow. The workshop is dedicated to the fundamental principles of digital forensics in the context of operational and digital investigations, with a focus on standardized methodologies and best practices in digital evidence handling.
Participants will be introduced to core concepts of forensic procedures, as well as current trends and emerging challenges in working with digital evidence in complex investigative environments. The session also highlights practical challenges in operational use and emphasizes the importance of structured methodology and continuous knowledge exchange.
Workshop 2 (13:00 – 15:30): Digital Trace Analysis and Analytical Procedures
Identification, interpretation and correlation of digital artifacts in criminal proceedings. The workshop focuses on the analysis of digital traces and the application of analytical techniques used in modern investigations.
Participants will be introduced to tools and approaches for identifying and analyzing digital artifacts, including a demonstration of partner solutions. Special attention is given to the capabilities and limitations of different tools, as well as methods for correlating data from multiple sources into a coherent investigative picture. The workshop also covers OSINT techniques, reporting practices, and discussion of real-world operational challenges.
September 22 – Day Two
Workshop 3 (10:00 – 12:00): Cyber incident handling
Operational decision-making, field response and coordination of technical and investigative capabilities. The workshop is focused on practical aspects of cyber incident response, including incident handling procedures, on-site actions, and triage of digital evidence.
Special emphasis is placed on operational decision-making in real-time scenarios and effective coordination between technical and investigative teams during cyber incidents. The session concludes with a professional discussion on current operational needs, challenges from practice, and opportunities for future training and collaborative projects.
Participants will have the opportunity to gain insights into current approaches and best practices in digital forensics, digital trace analysis, and cyber incident management.
