Keynote presentations (Grand hall - Section B) Private cooperation in the pre-trial phase before the admission of the Digital Evidence in court
Just a few years ago the most problematic aspect of the pre-investigative phase was the necessity to deal with the complexity of digital evidence, partly because such evidence could be easily altered, and partly due to the difficulty of obtaining and retrieving data from deleted files. Today, the problem is much more serious, if of a less technical nature: the data is often no longer contained in storage media seized by the court police during the investigation. Even though this did occur before cloud computing, the rise of this phenomenon unquestionably made access to digital evidence exponentially more and more difficult. The Council of Europe was recently forced to intervene at the Cybercrime Convention in an attempt to find a solution to this burning issue. In the meantime, every little thing depends on public-private cooperation, which even if it is considered legally controversial, was proven to be effective from at least the investigative point of view. The lecture will provide an analysis of possible legal and technological solutions that not only comply with the fundamental rights of individuals but could close the investigative gap affecting all the world’s law enforcement agencies. The road ahead of us is extremely demanding and, if we take into account the dramatic rise in the use of the deep web by internationally operating criminal organizations, not always effective.

Keynote presentation: OLAF Training Experience
Upon years of receiving glowing recommendations in the area of digital forensics, corporate security and business integration, and, in particular, the hugely successful provision of training throughout the region, INSig2 has successfully gained the trust of OLAF. OLAF is a European Commission agency that protects the interests of the European Union by investigating attempts of fraud in the flow of EU funds. INSig2 has established a consortium consisting of ACCESS DATA (a world-renowned US-based company known for its digital forensics products), IACIS (a professional association of computer investigative specialists based in the US which offers certification programmes in the field of digital forensics), the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (scientifically involved in digital forensics), and VENTEX (a company specializing in the integration of information and communications technology equipment). INSig2 has organized a two-week digital forensics training program consisting of 10 sessions. As many as 186 attendees from 42 countries joined the program led by 31 lecturers from Europe, the US and New Zealand, engaged in digital forensics in institutions carrying out law enforcement and similar activities on a daily basis. INSig2 has established a methodological and professional basis for providing the training by raising the standards: we developed the training methodology which requires active participation in learning and defined the role of an expert lecturer as a leader in mastering new knowledge and skills. We precisely defined expected learning outcomes (new knowledge and skills that participants will acquire), and prepared learning materials aimed at providing the participants with sufficient support and other references for further application of learned concepts in everyday work for each training session. A set of practical tasks to be performed during the training is defined for each attendee, while the completion of a multiple-choice objective test serves as feedback of fulfilling the desired training outcomes. Such high-quality training has once again confirmed the professionalism and expertise of INSig2, which has developed an exclusive system of training organizations combining both integration and networking among individual experts and specialized companies. We are particularly proud of the unique INSig2 model of training organization, which incorporates effective training methodology with, among other things, a workbook provided for all attendees, qualified instructors, ICT equipment and digital forensics software, the assessment of newly acquired skills and knowledge, and an intricate system of quality control for preparation, organization and training implementation.
